About Laura

I am a French and Spanish modern languages graduate, (2:1), and a UK qualified French teacher, (PGCE with distinction), who is excited to share my passion for both the French and Spanish languages and cultures. My specialist subjects are: - A-Level French grammar, writing, oral and exam skills. - GCSE French grammar, writing, oral and exam skills. I also offer French and Spanish tuition for business and pleasure, suitable for all ages! Whatever your goal, I will help you to build the necessary skills to excel in your exams, interact with locals or hold business discussions in your target language. As such, my approach is to develop a study programme tailored to how you learn and why you want to learn French or Spanish. Importantly, we will work at your pace to realise your language goals using the latest educational technology to support remote learning. For A-Level/GCSE: At an A-Level/GCSE level, the focus is on distilling the syllabus through exam skills e.g. verb tenses, core vocab, complex grammatical structures, writing techniques, oral proficiency and cultural awareness. My aim is to ensure that the student can confidently respond to and understand spoken and written French using the necessary vocab and grammar. As such, I place emphasis on improving written and spontaneous oral expression through intensive tense revision, mapping key vocab and opinion phrases from each theme and revising essential grammatical structures to improve translation in-line with mark schemes. For adult learners: The ability to be understood and to understand is what makes language learning worthwhile! From first-hand experience as an Erasmus student, an au pair, an employee and as a tourist, I know that when abroad you need to feel at ease with verb tenses, have an ample range of vocab and be sensitive to cultural nuances. As such, I prioritise techniques that help you master speaking confidently and spontaneously through grammar study around topics, situations or contexts that resonate with you. My aim is to ensure that you increase your confidence to interact comfortably with mother tongue speakers. For business learners: Prior to teaching, I spent 10 years working in digital commercial teams for national newspapers such as The Economist and The Guardian, where I managed a roster of European clients and was the lead coordinator with the Paris and Spanish offices. As such, I bring first-hand experience of how language skills can be transposed to the workplace as well as best practice in leveraging digital tools to support study skills.

About the lesson

I employ a bespoke approach to match you or your child's individualised needs. At an A-Level/GCSE level, the focus is on distilling the syllabus through exam skills e.g. verb tenses, core vocab, complex grammatical structures, developing personal expression with the use of opinions, writing & translation mark scheme techniques, improving spontaneous oral proficiency and cultural awareness. For adult learners, the focus is on improving confidence through mastering grammar and vocab around contexts that resonate with your motivation to improve your language skills.
