About Brandon

Hello, I’m Brandon, a qualified English teacher, current classroom practitioner and Head of Year with over six years’ experience teaching GCSE English. I specialise in the AQA specification and have a proven track record of helping students make significant progress, with my GCSE classes improving by an average of 1.2 grades. Several students have started the year working at Grades 1 or 2 and gone on to achieve Grades 6 and 7.

I believe every student can succeed with the right support. My lessons are engaging, structured and tailored to each learner’s strengths and areas for development. Whether your goal is to secure a pass, improve your confidence or achieve the top grades, I focus on developing strong analytical skills, effective exam technique and the confidence needed to perform under exam conditions.

As a practising classroom teacher, I understand exactly what examiners are looking for and use up-to-date teaching methods, personalised feedback and targeted revision strategies.

About the lesson

I specialise in helping GCSE English students make rapid, measurable progress, with proven results including moving students from Grades 1–2 up to 5–6, and supporting lower set students to achieve Grade 7s. I am a qualified secondary English teacher and Head of Year with 6 years’ experience, teaching across all abilities from top sets to those needing targeted support.

I studied at Leeds Trinity University, where I developed both my subject knowledge and passion for education. My drive to tutor comes from a genuine thirst to teach more—beyond the limits of the classroom—and to give students the individual attention they need to succeed.

I have extensive experience with AQA and Edexcel, including A Christmas Carol, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Power and Conflict poetry, unseen poetry, and both Language Papers 1 and 2. I also contribute to curriculum development within my trust, giving me a clear understanding of what examiners are looking for and how to maximise marks.

My lessons are structured, focused, and tailored to each student. We begin with a quick skills check, followed by targeted teaching, guided practice, and exam-style questions with clear, actionable feedback. I place a strong emphasis on exam technique and building confidence so students know exactly how to improve.

I am passionate about helping students succeed and take pride in creating a calm, supportive environment where confidence grows alongside results.
