About Issie

Hi there!

I have a degree in Spanish and Linguistics from the University of Oxford. I achieved Grade 9 in GCSE Spanish and an A* at A Level, and I spent a year living and studying in Spain as part of my degree.

Alongside tutoring, I also teach English as a Foreign Language and hold a Level 5 Diploma in TEFL, which has strengthened my understanding of grammar, vocabulary, and language learning more generally. My background in Linguistics has also given me a strong grounding in how language is structured, used, and acquired.

I use this experience to support students in developing not only their exam skills, but also a deeper understanding of how Spanish works, helping them become more confident and independent language learners.

About the lesson

Each 60-minute lesson is tailored to the student’s exam board, level, and individual goals, with a focus on building confidence, accuracy, and exam technique.

I'm familiar with Edexcel, AQA, OCR, and Eduqas exam boards.

For GCSE Spanish, lessons typically cover core grammar, vocabulary development, reading and listening comprehension, translation skills, and structured speaking practice. I regularly make use of exam-style questions and past papers to develop strong, reliable exam performance. Also, when it comes to languages, I believe confidence is essential. I help students feel more comfortable when speaking Spanish, crucial for the speaking exam.

For A Level Spanish, my sessions are designed to develop advanced language skills, including complex grammar, translation, essay writing, and text analysis. Lessons also include structured preparation for the speaking assessment and cover the required literature and film studies, helping students to analyse themes, characters, and context.

But, crucially, I listen to each student's needs. The great thing about private tuition is that we can work on perfecting the details that could make all the difference, so I'm always open to requests.

I'm really passionate about the Spanish language and Hispanic culture having studied it for many years, and I hope to share that passion! I know learning a language at school can be overwhelming, so I strive to reduce the pressure and make learning fun.
