Who I Am and Why I Want to Teach
I believe that mathematical confidence isn't something you're born with—it’s something every student can build, regardless of past grades or prior hurdles. For me, mathematics isn't just about passing an exam; it’s a foundational discipline that equips learners with the critical problem-solving tools they need to make better decisions in everyday life.
My teaching philosophy is built on three core pillars:
Conceptual Clarity over Rote Learning: We learn best by asking why a mathematical concept works, not just memorising formulas. I encourage inquisitive thinking so students truly understand the mechanics behind the math.
Tailored Adaptability: Every student's brain works differently. One of my greatest strengths is my approachability and willingness to shift gears—exploring diverse methods, analogies, and visual breakdowns until a tricky topic finally clicks.
Stretching Potential: Once the core foundations are secure, I focus on creative ways to challenge students, deepening their analytical skills and pushing them to exceed their target grades.
With 15 years of secondary school teaching experience and 8 years as a Pearson Edexcel GCSE Higher examiner, I bring an insider's view of the marking process. This examining background has given me a sharp eye for identifying common student errors and misconceptions before they cost marks. More importantly, it has taught me how to train students to communicate their mathematics fluently in writing—ensuring their working out is crystal clear, rigorous, and structured in a way that examiners reward with full marks, ultimately driving the most favourable outcomes.

Drawing on my background as a Pearson Edexcel GCSE Higher examiner, my lessons give students a distinct insider advantage. I train students not just to solve problems, but to communicate their mathematical working with absolute clarity—avoiding common pitfalls and structuring answers so that examiners award full marks.
Techniques and Teaching Methodology
My sessions are delivered through a dialogue-style sequence of lessons. Rather than a generic template, I use ongoing student performance and attainment data to dynamically feed forward our lesson objectives and resources.
While maintaining a clear roadmap of the required course material, my approach is designed to:

Develop cross-topic mastery, which promotes long-term content retention.
Build the resilience and confidence students need to independently assess the difficulty of exam papers, tackle complex challenges, and ultimately succeed.
Lesson Structure and Formats
Typical Lesson Length: Standard sessions range from 1 to 2 hours, providing the optimal balance for reviewing independent practice, mastering new concepts, and tackling rigorous exam-style questions. Extended sessions are also available for intensive A-Level or Further Mathematics revision.
Tuition Formats: Available in-person (local area) and online via video call with interactive digital whiteboarding.
