About Tutor
I have been teaching online for four years and have taught in a public school for three. I have had teaching certifications in EC-12 Spanish, EC-12 Music, 4-8 Generalist (math, science, social studies, and English language arts), and EC-12 ESL. My bachelor's is in second language acquisition, and I have some graduate school coursework in linguistics.
As a non-native General American English speaker, I understand the difficulties of language and accent acquisition. I continue to grow professionally by studying languages and accents. I have studied Spanish, French, Swedish, Brazilian Portuguese, Modern Hebrew, Mandarin Chinese, Uyghur, and Turkish. I have studied Californian English, Received Pronunciation (Standard British English), Kiwi and Aussie English, and I am a native speaker of African-American Vernacular English.
I have taught General American pronunciation to speakers of twenty-one of the world's forty most spoken languages, some smaller languages like Belarusian, Catalan, Maghrebi Arabic, Hebrew, Kyrgyz, Malayalam, Polish, Estonian, Swedish, Yoruba, Ewondo, and Taiwanese Hokkien, and other dialects of English.

After I note the differences between your foreign accent and a General American accent, I immediately start forming a personalized curriculum. The curriculum will include ear training, isolated pronunciation, reading practice, and speech practice. I like to give my students homework to help you practice pronunciation on your own. My students are all educated adult internationally-born professionals, but I am open to teaching any hardworking adult.
