About Helena
I am a German native speaker who grew up in Berlin. Since secondary school, I have always had a passion for languages, particularly for grammar. My education in Latin and Ancient Greek during high school gives me a unique aptitude for grammar, from its most simple to its most complex forms.
While I went on to study philosophy for my bachelors and masters degrees, I have continued to cultivate a rich relationship with the German language. During my time at university, I did some German tutoring and am now looking to do more of that since I enjoyed it so much.
The first thing I always ask myself as a teacher is what leads *you* to the German language? Starting with you and your unique situation means that I can customize the tempo, content, and difficulty of the lessons.

In my lessons, I encourage students to speak the language early on and to learn grammar and vocabulary in a conversational context. Each lesson involves some new grammar and/or vocabulary. The conversation (even if very simple in the beginning) is about something you care about or about why you want to learn German/what you want to use it for. Lessons more focused on pronunciation are also possible.
I can also offer excellent help on dealing with German in an academic context, particularly in philosophy since that is my academic background. Those lessons can be more focused on reading particular passages and working through more complex grammar/vocabulary as it comes up.
