About Hazel
Hi! I'm Hazel :)
I just finished my undergraduate study at UBC BFA Visual Art program and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I'm an interdisciplinary artist and a visual designer. I currently work with creators and entrepreneurs to improve their digital media content quality and produce content as a social media coordinator.
I have a passion for teaching. I have tutored multiple students in Visual Art, Art History and Theory, and am known most in tutoring for my patience and kindness combined.

- Brainstorming Ideas: I foster a creative and supportive environment where students can freely explore and develop their artistic concepts. I encourage brainstorming sessions, where we discuss ideas, themes, and inspirations. I help students refine their concepts, providing feedback and suggesting alternative approaches to push their artistic boundaries.
- Technique Skill Development: I emphasize the importance of technical proficiency in art creation. Whether it's painting, drawing, sculpture, or any other medium, I provide hands-on guidance to help students improve their skills. I focus on various techniques, such as brushwork, shading, perspective, composition, and more, enabling students to enhance their artistic abilities.
- Artist Statement Writing: I guide students in crafting compelling artist statements that effectively communicate their artistic vision and intent. Through one-on-one sessions, I help students refine their language, structure their statements, and highlight the key elements that make their work distinctive.
- Undergraduate Application Portfolio Preparation: For students aspiring to pursue visual arts in college, I assist in building impressive portfolios. I offer guidance on selecting and curating artworks that showcase their range, skills, and artistic growth. Additionally, I provide tips on presenting the portfolio effectively, including formatting, sequencing, and written descriptions.
Beyond tutoring, I offer additional services to enhance the learning experience:
- Portfolio Review and Feedback: I provide constructive criticism and evaluation of existing portfolios, offering suggestions for improvement and areas to focus on.
- Art History and Theory Discussions: I offer supplemental lessons exploring art history, movements, and theories, enriching students' understanding of the artistic context and helping them develop a well-rounded perspective.
