About Xander

I am a 19-year-old first-year university student at the University of Birmingham, studying Materials Science and Engineering.

Previously deputising for my tuba teacher Joe Hassan to teach a younger student, I am happy to work with students of any age and a playing level up to Grade 5. I am enthusiastic about getting more people to play the tuba as it is definitely an underappreciated instrument!

I know tuba solos can be daunting, as they don't come up very often in our repertoire, so I am happy to coach students in confidence and ways to succeed in playing solos

Outside of my degree and music, I love long walks/hikes, reading and research!

About the lesson

I have 9 years' experience playing tuba having been a student of Joe Hassan (around 40 years of tuba experience). I have played with various top student music ensembles including the London Schools Symphony Orchestra, London Youth Wind Band, London Youth Concert Band and the Centre for Young Musicians' Senior Percussion and Senior Brass Ensembles, playing at roughly Grade 8-level on tuba.
