About Thomas
Hello! I'm Thomas. I am a recent graduate of Northeastern University, where I received a bachelor's in biochemistry with high honors. I am a formal employee of Moderna Therapeutics, where I aided in the development of cancer Vaccines, and I am now conducting research at the Whitehead Institute of Biomedical Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I am applying concepts of biology and immunology to develop therapeutics for difficult to treat cancers.

I have multiple years of experience tutoring biology courses at the college level, where I developed individualized lesson plans depending on the needs of the student. A typical lesson will begin with the student providing some context for the course, explaining thr overall topics that they would like help understaning. I then have the student go over coursework that they have struggled with, which I then help them work through. This is then followed by a section where we go through the fundamentals of the topic, filling in the gaps in knowledge I observed previously that often lead to misunderstandings in more complex areas. I often conclude with a brief review of the covered material, and if the student will have future sessions, set some goals for the student to achieve by the next lesson.
You may be wondering what differentiates me from other biology tutors. Aside from completing a degree in biochemistry with high honors, I have gained significant first hand experience applying concepts of biology to my research in the biotechnology industry and at MIT, which has helped me gain a much deeper understanding of course materials and improved my ability to transfer information to others. Additionally, I put a large emphasis on guiding the student find the answer on their own, rather than providing it to them. I believe that tutoring is most effective when the student learns the skills to solve problems individually.
