About Laura

I started my musical journey at a young age, with violin lessons beginning at age three, followed by piano at five and viola at eight. I followed the Suzuki method and formed my early stages of musicianship at the junior department of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I then attended Wells Cathedral School as a specialist musician. I had a well-rounded university education, completing my undergraduate degree at Durham University (Bachelor of Music, first class honours), followed by the Royal Academy of Music (Master of Arts, distinction). I am now completing my final year of study on the Professional Diploma course at the Royal Academy of Music. I am now a freelance musician, working regularly with some of the UK’s top ensembles (Britten Sinfonia, Birmingham Royal Ballet, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra). I also have experience with orchestras in Europe, working with the Berlin Philharmonic and Czech Philharmonic. I am happy to cater to students of all abilities. I have experience in helping beginners both in private lessons as well as in a small group setting. I also regularly give feedback and direction to music college students.

About the lesson

As a recipient of the LRAM teaching licence (Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music). I am happy to teach pupils of any age and ability. I believe that enjoyment in playing is a core part of music education, and I aim to incorporate this into my teaching regardless of how serious the player intends to be. I can help with technical skill, as well as developing musical and artistic ideas to support a pupil into becoming a well-rounded musician. I usually teach using the Suzuki method for beginners, but I can tailor this to the student’s needs, including graded ABRSM exams if so desired. For more advanced students, the lessons will focus on scales, studies and pieces. This will be tailored to the student’s goals.
