About Cooper

My name is Cooper Cromwell-Whitley and I am a Tenor Trombonist with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre and Dance. In my career as a young professional, I have had the great privilege of playing with esteemed ensembles such as the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Venues that I have played in include Carnegie Hall, The Concertgebouw, Royal Albert Hall, Heinz Hall, and Verizon Hall. Throughout my time at the University, I have always been very passionate about teaching. Within the last decade, I have consistently taught both privately and in classroom formats, aiming to hone the passion that enthusiastic students bring into their lessons.

About the lesson

I have a very adaptable teaching style where I cater to specific students' needs, allowing them to grow along their own personal trajectory rather than go by a strict curriculum. In the first few lessons, I would take that as an opportunity to fully figure out the level of a given student, determining whether 30-minute or hour-long lessons would be more appropriate. A typical lesson plan would consist of a warm-up at the beginning of the lesson, usually in the format of an Etude and fundamental technical studies. We would then move into repertoire either assigned by me or something the student is working on at school and spend the duration of the lesson working on that. One of the things that sets me apart as a tutor is my experience. I have had the privilege of performing with some of the top orchestras in the country, through which I have gained considerable knowledge. The expertise that I have gives me the skills to teach young beginners and more experienced students, giving both the tools to become talented musicians. These lessons are being offered to any skill or age group (Elementary, Middle, High School, and College)
