About Stephanie

Stephanie Lauwrencia Christianto is an Indonesian pianist, chamber musician, and music educator with a passion for raising mental health awareness among musicians. She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Piano Performance from HKU Utrechts Conservatorium, and was awarded double Honours Track Program where she was given the opportunity to study both composition and pipe organ performance.

Currently, Stephanie is pursuing her Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy degree at Baylor University, Texas, USA, with full scholarships In the piano pedagogy field, she was competitively selected by the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) to present a research poster at the 2023 MTNA Collegiate Chapters Symposium in January 2023 at Texas Christian University, Forth Worth, USA, with a research poster titled “Engaging Color Analysis in Music Reading”.

Her competition succeses include winning prizes at Essex Indonesia Piano Competition, Alberti International Piano Competition, Nusantara Piano Competition by Ananda Sukarlan, Yamaha Piano Competition, and Prinses Christina Concours Competition in The Netherlands. In 2021, She was also invited to attend the prestigious Sibelius Academy Helsinki Summer Piano Academy in Finland. She has performed in prestigious venues, including Het Concertgebouw (The Royal Concertgebouw) in Amsterdam, Grote Zaal of TivoliVredenBurg in Utrecht, Fentener van Vlissingenzaal in Utrecht, and Kavelan Nevatta Concert Hall in Seinäjoki, Finland.

In addition to her studies, Stephanie has had the opportunity to receive masterclasses from several renowned pianists, including Dr. Johannes Sebastian Nugroho (Indonesia), Dr. Nariaki Sugiura (Japan/USA), Prof. Henry Kelder (The Netherlands), Prof. Teppo Koivisto (Finland), Prof. Risto-Matti Marin (Finland), Prof. Mariusz Drzewicki (Poland), and many others.

As a music educator, Stephanie is committed to helping her students achieve their full potential, both as pianists and as individuals. Her teaching experience includes serving as a Piano Teaching Assistant at Baylor University School of Music, where she has had the privilege of mentoring young musicians and nurturing their passion for music. Her approach to teaching emphasizes not only technical excellence, but also the development of emotional and mental well-being, recognizing the unique challenges that musicians face in maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Beyond her work as a performer and educator, Stephanie is also passionate about raising awareness for mental health issues in the music community. She has spoken candidly about her own experiences with performance anxiety and burnout, and advocates for more support and resources to be made available to musicians facing similar challenges through her blog on ThePianoLabs.com, hoping to create a supportive community for musicians who struggle with mental health issues.

I am a Classical Piano Performance graduate from Utrecht Conservatory of Music, The Netherlands, and Graduate Associate at Baylor University, USA. I have huge passion in teaching, and experienced with Associated Board Royal School of Music (ABRSM) Method and Yamaha Music Education Method. Having piano lesson with me will give you the opportunity to learn not only classical piano, but also pop piano, improvisations, and classical music theory, as well as university entrance exam preparation! Whether you are an absolute beginner, or already have experiences in piano, you’re always welcome to take piano lessons with me!
