About Lava

I am a self-taught artist and designer with a passion for creativity, individuality, and encouragement. Having worked on multiple freelance projects across different areas of art and design, I bring a broad, real-world understanding of how ideas develop from concept to completion. As a neurodivergent creative, I see and interpret the world through a unique lens, which allows me to approach visual problems in original and unexpected ways. My goal as a tutor is to nurture each student’s confidence and creativity — helping them to explore, experiment, and grow without fear of judgement. I believe that art is for everyone, and my teaching focuses on building skills while celebrating each student’s personal style and voice.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is centred on developing each student’s *creative confidence* and *individual artistic voice*. I believe that strong technical foundations go hand in hand with critical thinking and experimentation. My lessons combine **demonstration**, **guided practice**, and **personal feedback**, encouraging students to explore a range of materials and techniques while understanding the conceptual context behind their work. I use a **student-led** methodology — starting by identifying each learner’s goals (e.g. portfolio preparation, improving drawing skills, or developing a design project) and tailoring sessions to their pace and interests. Lessons often include visual analysis of artists and designers, sketchbook development, and reflective discussion to help students articulate their creative process. **Techniques & Tools** I teach across both **traditional and digital media**, depending on the student’s focus: * Drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media * Design thinking, layout, and composition * Digital tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or Procreate * Portfolio presentation and documentation techniques Critique and feedback are central to my sessions — I model how to discuss artwork constructively, helping students learn to assess and refine their own pieces independently. **Lesson Structure & Duration** A typical lesson lasts **60 to 90 minutes**, structured into: 1. A short warm-up or skill exercise 2. A focused practical task or project continuation 3. Feedback and reflection on progress 4. Setting goals or homework for the next session For intensive portfolio or exam preparation, I also offer longer sessions or short courses. **Qualifications & Experience** I hold BA (Hons) in Illustration for communication, L3 in Fashion design and studying towards an MA in Graphic Design **Who My Lessons Are For** I teach a wide range of learners, including: * Secondary school and sixth-form students (GCSE / A-Level / BTEC) * Foundation or undergraduate students building portfolios * Adult learners and hobbyists interested in developing creative practice Each session is adaptable — whether the goal is technical improvement, creative exploration, or professional portfolio development.
