About Matt

I have been performing percussionist for 15+ years and 8+ years of teaching experience. Recently, I have had to move away from my drum set studio that I was teaching at in Arizona. There, I was teaching private lessons to over 40 drum set students and I loved the individualized instruction I was able to provide for my students. I hope to continue to build on this platform and provide excellent individualized instruction for my students. I gear my lesson progression toward helping you learn new concepts as well as giving you the tools to solve musical problems on your own! I will work toward supporting your growth over time through praise but also through your own gratification. Throughout our time together, you will be able to develop your ears and listening in such a way that you will be able to listen and analyze your own playing in a productive way! For me, music is like a Rubik's cube with many paths to the solution. MY job is finding the path that will work best for you in order to help you achieve your goals, whatever they may be!

About the lesson

Are you looking for an individualized percussion teacher to take you to the next level? Look no further! I specialize in creating individualized instruction for all of my students. I want to make sure that we are working with YOUR goals in mind as we progress through our process. Based on what you are looking for in our lessons, I will begin to map out our working plan together. If you cannot read traditional sheet music, do not worry! Lessons here specialize in teaching music literacy in conjunction with the goals that are set. I will check back in frequently to see how you feel we are progressing and talk through our plans for the future as we progress. These are YOUR lessons and I plan to help you continue toward your goals as they may shift over time! As we work together, I will keep a running document of our progress that will be shared with you to view. I will write down any important notes from our lessons as well as any assignments here for your ease!

Having a time that works regularly every week will be the standard. However, you can expect flexible lesson rescheduling as much as my schedule will allow it. I understand that life happens and you or your student will be unable to attend a regularly scheduled lesson. As such, I am willing to be as flexible as my schedule will allow in order to move lessons around in the case of an unexpected or planned absence!

We serve all levels including beginners as well as college applicants and bachelors students! Students will be expected to have sticks or mallets for their instrument as well as something reliable to play on (pad or instrument). We will be working from a variety of instructional texts that I will give you access to based on our progression and goals! Remember, anyone can play music, you just need the right teacher!
