About Alistair
I currently tutor GCSE English at a secondary school in London, helping Year 11 students who have missed out on their learning during lockdown to catch up and recover their grades.
As a child, I had ADHD which prevented me from reading until I was 8 years old. Eventually, I picked up a book and I have been an avid reader and writer ever since!
I have a degree, not in English, but in Evolutionary Biology, and have a peer reviewed, published research paper. I can also help you with scientific writing!

My teaching method is tailored to the students and content they need to cover. I'm willing to teach all levels below undergraduate level, except for early years teaching - young children benefit from specialist teachers!
For reading, analysis and comprehension, I structure my lesson around a piece of reading chosen to be interesting and relevant to the tutee. I can incorporate necessary texts if your exam board or teacher requires it.
When it comes to writing, I prefer to start writing knowing students have a basis from plenty of reading. If writing analytical essays, we will start with analysing a text or refering to texts we looked at in previous sessions.
For creative writing, I will take a student through the process of planning and drafting a short piece of writing, and then analysing it to see how they feel they could improve in a second draft.
