About Omar

Meet Omar
In 1999 Omarr received his Bachelors of Arts in Photography and Digital Imaging. He attended the Ringling College of Art and Design, one of the most highly recognized and innovative arts colleges in the United States. He has had the privilege to teach photography, sculpture, drawing and painting nationally and in Central America.

After graduating, Omarr left Sarasota, Florida and worked side by side with actors and crew in New York television, including the day time dramas: All My Children, One Life to Live, Guiding Light, and As the World Turns. During this period, he garnered an array of skills, particularly in technical lighting, which he continues to employ in his current work. Leaving New York, Omarr again was able to step outside the family and special event realm, and photographed for television and film studios.

This, and other similar experiences, have heightened his interest for featuring portraits of individuals and families and enhance his passion for unique personal lifestyle and animal portraits. He also has the prestige of winning national honors, such as the Ava Video Award along with Imagination Unlimited Weddings.

To further add to his repertoire, Omarr became a member of the esteemed faculty at Ringling College of Art and Design. He shared his knowledge, experience and passion for photography, sculpture and drawing with students at his own alma mater. Omarr proudly started in the 2011-2012 academic year. A year later, he received his public school teaching license. He taught elementary art in Palmetto, Florida for 2 years followed by a new position overseas teaching IB ( International Baccalaureate) Art in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. For 2 years he taught in Honduras during the school year and in Sarasota at Ringling College during the summer.

Currently Omarr is teaching 3D Art, 2D Art, Painting I and Drawing I at Hagerty High School in Oviedo, Florida, the top rated school in the county. He recently received a residency at the Hermitage Art Retreat Manasota Key, Florida and is teaching elementary and middle school art workshops in Winter Garden, Florida for the summer.

About the lesson

I have spent my career becomming the teacher I always wish I had.

My first teaching post was at an art school. I became the first visual arts teacher at the academy. Luckily, the owner of the school was a very talented, famous, Venezuelan artist. He taught me hard but he taught me good. I learned more from him in a month that I did during my 4 years at Ringling College of Art and Design. I will be teaching the same lessons that I taught overseas and still teach today in my high school classes. I tweak them of course ,to fit my individual student needs and to make them current and topical.

I have taught ages 3 to 94. I'm in my element when I teach high school and above but I still teach younger kids. I run art programs during the summer for elementary school aged students and do workshops often for older, non-traditional students.
