About Ailsa

I'm Ailsa - a creative, hands-on designer with a love for textiles, visual storytelling, and helping others unlock their artistic potential. I want to help students enjoy the creative process, and unlock what's going on in that brain! I remember all too well sitting frustrated in my school's art studio, feeling stumped, discouraged, and exhausted during busy exam years. I truly believe that with the right coaching and support, unlocking that creativity should be easy. My own journey through art and design was shaped by encouraging teachers who helped me find my voice – now I want to do the same for others. With experience working in both the creative industry and education settings, I understand the balance between freedom and structure that’s needed to succeed in GCSE and A-Level Art or Textiles. I know how daunting sketchbooks, deadlines, and final pieces can feel, and I aim to create a calm, inspiring environment where students feel supported, seen, and beyond all, motivated. I tutor because I genuinely love seeing students grow – not just in skill, but in confidence and curiosity. Whether you’re already passionate about art or just starting to find your feet, I’m here to help you push your work further, refine your ideas, and enjoy the process along the way.

About the lesson

Whether your child is building a GCSE portfolio or aiming for top marks at A-Level, I offer personalised Art and Textiles tutoring that balances technical guidance with creative encouragement. My approach is tailored to suit each student’s learning style, in a relaxed environment, helping them develop confidence, and refine their ideas. How I Teach: My sessions focus on developing strong sketchbook work, thoughtful research, and high-quality final outcomes. I want to work closely with students to: Expand and explore their personal style and interests Strengthen technical skills in drawing, textile techniques, and presentation Plan and pace coursework effectively, avoiding last-minute stress Break down assessment objectives clearly, so students understand how to gain marks Each session typically runs for 60 minutes but this can be flexible as needed, depending on the student’s needs and schedule. About Me: I have a background in design and textiles and years of hands-on experience working in creative environments. I’m passionate about helping young people enjoy art while achieving their academic goals - art is not meant to be strict! Who It’s For: GCSE and A-Level Art/Textiles students (Ages 14–18) Students applying for art foundation or creative college courses Anyone looking to build or improve a portfolio with personalised guidance Based in Fulham – available for in-person tutoring in West/Central London or online via Zoom.
