About Sophia

I am a multi-disciplinary artist and educator, I am a songwriter creating genre-blending music, informed by my passion for studying musicology, and immersing myself in the world of music that is currently unfolding. I have recently released my debut album with Ba Da Bing Records to critical acclaim. I regularly perform around London, playing venues such as St Matthias Church, The Lexington and Mu. I also work collaboratively composing for dance, film and theatre, notably scoring the multi-award winning short 'Where We Belong' by Madoka Belda Yamamoto.

I am driven by the student's passion, I want to know about what inspires you, and lead you to ideas and approaches that can expand how you currently make and interact with music.

About the lesson

I take a holistic approach to teaching, working from what areas of music the student wishes to explore, developing material and around their unique approach and taste. My objective is to expand upon the student's budding areas of interest with my diverse and multifaceted skillset.

This can include, song-writing, arranging, lyric writing, home recording, production, translating from studio to live and vice versa, aesthetic studies, dance composition, sound design, music history, essay writing, as well as practical industry and artist management guidance. My sessions typically run for an hour.

I hold a Bachelor degree in Music Composition and Technology from WAAPA, I was the recipient of the Barbara MacLeod Scholarship for Outstanding Female student to study abroad at Goldsmiths University of London. I have experience as a private tutor for composition, as well as a cello tutor. I have released my debut album 'Undertow' with Ba Da Bing Records to acclaim from NPR, Flood magazine and NTS.
