About Booker
As a former Japanese language student myself, I have first-hand knowledge of the challenges that learning Japanese presents and the various methods to overcome them. Over the course of four years of learning Japanese in an academic setting, I have become familiar with most study methods, textbooks, and resources that students can utilize to increase proficiency. In addition to academia, I have lived in Tokyo while studying at Sophia University. I can provide both cultural and historical context, as well as practical applications of insight.

My teaching methods focus on transferring passive knowledge (memorized vocabulary, grammar structures, phrases) to active knowledge (the integration of knowledge resulting in fully applicable language proficiency). Typical lesson plans include the student's study materials, if present, along with exercises to reinforce application and knowledge retention. These exercises are geared to the student's goals, such as listening comprehension, conversational skills, reading comprehension, etc. As a tutor, I am patient, encouraging, and attentive to the goals of students, personalizing lesson plans to reach and surpass those goals in a comfortable and productive environment. Lessons range from those just starting their language learning journey to those in advanced levels. Using the JLPT metric (Japanese Language Proficiency Test), lessons range from N5 to N2.
