About Carlos
As a graduate with an associates degree in the Natural Sciences from Merritt College, a current Aviation student at San Jose State University, and a person who loves assisting people, I am passionate about working in the education field. Working as an after school instructor and possessing college level skills for math, I can be a valuable tutor.
In my time working for the two after school programs in the Oakland Unified School District I gained valuable experience in working with students. I have worked in low income communities and was raised in Oakland, so I feel that I can connect with students from diverse and challenging backgrounds. Aside from just school work, I’m very willing to help students with non academic issues that occur outside of school to make sure they are successful all around.
I also have plenty of strong experiences in Math. Courses that I have taken that are in or related to math are Intermediate Algebra, Intro to Statistics, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, Introduction to Physics, General Physics A, General Physics B, and General Chemistry. These classes all needed a strong foundation in algebra since the courses got to higher levels of math. Math is a subject I really enjoy now after really getting to understand it. Now, one of my strengths is breaking down math in a fun, easy way for students. With all this knowledge learned in school and experience being an after school instructor, I believe I am an excellent potential tutor.
Besides my knowledge in these subjects and experience in the work I have done I really do love helping the community especially when it comes to the youth. Growing up I never thought school was something I would be good at. Now, I have an associates degree and am completing a bachelor’s degree. I would also like students to realize that they are more than capable of both of succeeding in and completing school. With my passion for helping students and my relevant skills, I believe I am a great fit to tutor.

As a tutor I will always ensure that the student will be able to learn and build confidence in the areas where they struggle. At first if needed the lecture will begin with a simple example regarding the subject that needs practice and will slowly move on to more difficult examples. During the process of moving to more difficult examples the students struggles in the area more visible. I will then proceed to start teaching more about the areas where the student needs more assistance along with giving more difficult examples to have more practice and boost confidence.
