About John

I excelled at my studies while at the University of Houston to do one thing: Educate others. Education has been, and always will be a lifelong dream of mine. My goal is to help others learn and to excel in life, just I have excelled in mine.

About the lesson

-I tend to meet the students halfway, I like to ask them about what their strengths and weaknesses are, and what methods are most effective in their education. I use patience and understanding to ensure that the student learns in a meaningful and productive way. I like to inquire what they've learned in school, and what aspects of their curriculum they have the most difficulty in. I try to explain the subject they have most difficulty learning in ways that they can understand and are easy to remember.

-A typical lesson plan is to overview what was recently learned in class, what subjects the student is having the most difficulty in, what tests and/or assignments are due, and what is going to be covered in those tests and/or assignments.
-The first thing that is covered are terms and definitions, then I will move onto more detailed concepts, timelines, and essays that require more thinking, time, and mental acuity. The terms and definitions are to be researched with me, I'll explain and elaborate the terms and definitions in a way that the student can understand and remember. I will have them explain it back to me, write it down, have them elaborate on it more, then have them write down the elaboration. I will ask them various questions to test their comprehension and give them tips and techniques to help them in upcoming assignments and tests.
-A typical lesson plan on average should be around one hour, but the duration can be shorter or longer depending on the needs of the student.
-It is recommended that I can sent the topics and curriculum that need to be covered in advance to the session in order for me to better prepare for the tutorial session.

-I believe in treating the student with dignity, and recognizing they are human beings capable of intelligence and excellence. I like to see the potential in every student.
-Patience and empathy are essential to my work, as they help me understand the student and their needs in school.
-Tutoring and education is a learning experience for both the student and educator, each help teach the other.

-The typical range of studies I cover are Anthropology, History, Art History, Government, and Social Sciences.
-I can teach anyone from 8th grade to College students seeking their bachelors degree
