I set clear expectations up front, and I also paraphrase my students' concerns and ask clarifying questions to show engagement. My tone with my students is always respectful and non-judgmental. I frame lessons as stories—either real-life accounts of scientists and discoveries or fictional narratives illustrating scientific processes.
