About Gem
After graduating with a Bachelor of Education in 2018, I started my teaching journey in a local school. There, I worked with Grade 5/6 students for two years. I had two main roles. My first role was a classroom teacher, where I taught everything from Maths to HASS, to Science and English. My second role was as a Literacy Support coach. In this role I worked either one on one or in a small group to help students with their reading comprehension, grammatical knowledge and various other aspects of literacy. After my two years, I moved to a school on the beach. Here, I taught a straight Grade 6 class and ran an 'options' class for Grade 6-8 students once a week. My passions include drama, theatre, Norse Mythology, Psychology, the brain and learning in general! I am now studying to become a Psychologist at ACAP. I love learning and helping people find their own love of learning too. I really look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.

All lessons can be 30 minutes - 1 hour, depending on subject and need. I teach Prep-grade 7 for Maths, English, HASS/History and Science.
I follow the "Instructional Model" for teaching. This is as follows:
-Pre-conditions for learning (high expectations, know students and how they learn, orderly earning environment)
-Engage: Tuning in, learning intentions and success criteria
-Teach: explicit teaching, modelling, worked examples
-Learn: Independent and collaborative learning, inquiry/investigation
-Review: Review Learning Intentions and success criteria/ plan next steps.
These steps are underpinned by: differentiation, evidence of learning, quality feedback and knowing the impact.
I will usually start with a short diagnostic assessment based around area of need to determine next steps. I will then work with students and their parents around targeted goals and desired outcomes.
