About Tyla
I am a professional vocalist and session musician based in Edinburgh with a number of years' experience in performing as a lead vocalist and a backing vocalist in a wide variety of genres and styles such as pop, rock, soul, jazz, blues and musical theatre. I frequently perform live across the UK and often work within a studio environment recording vocals for different projects.
I graduated from Edinburgh Napier University with a first-class honours in BA (Hons) Popular Music in 2024, and have since completed an MA Music degree, focusing on vocal performance, technique and vocal pedagogy. I will also be returning to continue my studies in 2026 where I will be completing a part-time PhD in the same area of focus.
I have around 3 years' experience in teaching individuals of all genders, ages and levels of experience and strive to focus lessons around the student, dependent on their needs and goals. I have also frequently coached choirs of various ages and levels of experience and have even provided group singing lessons when required.

My teaching style is all about adaptability and inclusivity, and helping each student reach their full potential! I know that every singer learns differently, so I tailor each lesson around individual goals, needs, and learning styles and preferences. At the start (and throughout our lessons), we spend time discussing what you’d like to achieve, whether it’s short-term progress or long-term development, so we both have a clear plan and focus.
During my MA Music degree my focus was on vocal pedagogy, something which I am continuing to research during my PhD studies. This means I have an in-depth and extensive knowledge of a range of teaching methodologies, such as Estill Voice Training and Complete Vocal Technique, that I utilise to adapt my lessons to each student appropriately. I use this background to create flexible, evidence-based lessons that build strong technique and encourage creative expression.
I also prioritise helping students understand what’s happening physically when they sing, explaining vocal anatomy and science in a way that’s accessible and suited to your level of interest. I have experience teaching across many contemporary genres, including pop, rock, jazz, blues, and soul and I ensure lessons are fun, engaging and productive! Lessons will usually last between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on your goals and experience. Above all, I’m passionate about singing, performance, and helping people grow in confidence, develop their craft, and find joy in their voice.
Lesson content will be adapted based on the student's needs, however, will typically include the following:
- Vocal Technique (Flexibility, Intonation, Agility, etc)
- Vocal Warm ups and Cool Downs
- Vocal Health Advice
- Building Repertoire
- Live Performance Skills (Mic Technique, Stage Presence, etc)
- Improvisation
- Performance Anxiety Strategies
- Vocal Science and Anatomy
- Basic Music Theory

Perfect! Tyla was a fantastic teacher. From the first moment I started lessons with her, I could tell that she was attuned to my voice and body (which is my instrument as a singer!) and thinking of how to adjust her teaching methods around my needs. She gave me space to choose the direction of my own growth, but supported my learning goals every step of the way with practical exercises and suggestions. This such a rare quality to be able to find in a music teacher in my experience - this quality of being able to prioritize and support the student and treat them like a equal, even while guiding them - and I'm saying that as someone who's studied music, sometimes professionally, since childhood. I would not hesitate to recommend Tyla to anyone and have already done so several times!
- Shu was a great student and really keen to learn more each lesson! They would always come to me with questions about how they can improve and what they can work on and showed improvement and commitment every time.Tyla's response :
Perfect! Tyla is easy going and makes lessons fun; this really helped me get over some initial nerves. She has an excellent grasp of singing techniques and clearly thinks about how best to gently push me in lessons to see what is possible. Thanks Tyla!
- Grant and I have had a great first couple of lessons and have been able to come up with a structured plan of what to work on going forward based on his interests, abilities and goals.Tyla's response :

Tyla transformed the way I approach singing. She’s so easy to talk to and she explains techniques in a way that’s clear and easy to learn. I’d definitely recommend her to anyone wanting to learn to sing, or sharpen their singing skills. Not to mention, she’s an experienced and talented professional singer so she’s had a lot of practical experience!
Tyla is one of the best performers and tutors in Edinburgh! She is has spent years studying vocals, performing live, and dedicates time for each and every student. Tyla makes lessons personalised and fun to engage with, which is perfect for me! Tyla has been teaching me vocals for over five years now and I have developed more than I could imagine, now I'm even doing my own gigs.
I think Tyla would excel on the Superprof website and be great addition to roster of teachers already available.Tyla is an excellent singing tutor who never fails to show her enthusiasm and passion for singing in every lessons she gives. She values the importance of following the students needs and wants and will celebrate every victory and achievement, no matter how small! She has massively helped in improving my understanding of the voice and in boosting my confidence. I can't recommend her enough!!
