About Lydia

Experienced designer and trainer, I have worked for several household brands & 15+ years tutoring, training, mentoring and creative coaching for professionals, students, amateurs and career-changers. I receive great results and feedback, and tailor sessions to the requirements of the student.

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have mentored and art directed designers and have been commissioned for advertising imagery, architectural, portraits and studio shots (food and product), resulting in 1,000s of my photos being on travel brand libraries. I am passionate about learning in a creative way.
I am also dyslexic and have overcome this in my career, I therefore understand how to make the complicated software seem easier for students of all ages.

I trained at Camberwell College of Arts in London, University of the Arts and graduated in 2000, and have worked in the design industry ever since

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I have a range of students who vary from secondary school age through adults looking to change career. I also have worked with several clients where I have trained employees in their offices, and offered ongoing support.

About the lesson

I tailor all sessions to the requirements of the student/organisation, I am happy to come into offices to deliver training on branding, design and creativity to design and marketing team members for example. I also work with students wanting to develop their creative career, or add to their skills.
I have a friendly approach, an enjoy watching students develop their creativity and knowledge, I can deliver training in person, at a meeting point or over Skype, depending on the requirements.

Designer and Art Director with 20 years experience working for several household brands, & approx 15 years tutoring, training, mentoring and coaching experience covering design software, photography & branding, to professionals, students or amateurs.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Design - graphic design, logo design, typography and layouts, branding, for students of all ages, and professionals who want to build their corporate marketing materials or enhance their employee skills - logos, brochures, adverts, digital assets for online use
Adobe software InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, portfolio preparation, creative development for students, professionals and amateurs.
Workshops to help you develop your ideas, and evolve branding.
Photography, whether you need to learn how to use your camera for general use, or to take product imagery for example. I can also tutor Photoshop editing skills.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a degree in Graphic Design and 20+ years experience working for several major brands as well as small start-ups. I also grew up being taught photography from a young age and continued this through my degree and working career.
I have undertaken many courses throughout my career to enhance my skills, and am able to offer a range of subjects incl web design, photography, graphic design and branding.

- How much do you charge?

From £40p/h. There is a reduced fee per person if more than one student is in the lesson, block bookings discounts are available.
For corporate in-house training sessions, please ask for a quote. I prepare training specific for 121 training, or for teams and offer notes for after the training sessions.

- Where do you teach?

Depending on the requirements, I teach in students' homes, in offices or at my home in King's Langley in Hertfordshire, I am willing to travel to areas in Hertfordshire, North / North West London, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire. Please ask if I cover your area, I am also happy to do Skype lessons too, (I have several students who I work with solely on Skype). If bookings are for at least half a day, then I will travel further, travel expenses would be charged.

- When are you available?

With notice, I am available most days or evenings by prior arrangement

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach from ages 13 and upwards. I can teach students drawing, how to use different materials and have the confidence to be creative. I can also teach them the basics on the computer software right through to adults looking at a career change, or just to know how to use Photoshop for example.
I train adults to use Adobe software, develop creative ideas and how to help back up their design requirements.
I can help prepare students for portfolio reviews and bring out their creativity.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I can prepare students in accordance to their syllabus, but also specifically for entrance to art and design courses such as degree and foundation courses.
When I do training, I tailor the courses to the business/employee needs.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

Online tutoring can carried out over Zoom, Skype or Facetime, this makes it easier for students to work around work and family commitments and as long you have a quiet space it can work really well.

If I need to travel to deliver training, then there may be an additional travel cost. For full day bookings I charge £400 per day and request a 50% payment to hold the date/s, and the remainder within 14 days of the training. I ask for at least 72 hours notice for changing the date.
For 2 hour sessions, I offer block booking discounts, please contact me to discuss further.
