Grow your Baseball IQ. Yogi Berra said "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half physical." (?) I focus on the mindsets of hitting and defense: good thinking. I played SS at schools. Can do MLB history

About David

Baseball became my passion at age 7 when dad took us to St. Louis Cardinals games. A huge fan ever since! I played shortstop on teams as far as high school. Including the history of MLB, going back to the early 1900's and Ty Cobb, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Stan Musial, Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Bob Gibson, Barry Bonds, Pedro Martinez, Ichiro Suzuki, +

Flexible, open to whatever aspect of baseball you want to focus on. Anything about playing the game: various approaches to hitting, situational strategy, including "small ball," running the bases, mindset playing defense, etc. I played shortstop and learned the fine points of playing the infield, but I've watched games for 50+ years and learned about playing the other positions. I'd be a good manager. Of course coaches have different opinions on strategy, etc. and I'm open to discuss that. "Play ball!"

  • Hello! I love most sports! When I was age 7 my Dad was telling me about Babe Ruth and famous ballplayers. He was a graduate of West Point and told me about their finest football players when they were ranked near the top with Notre Dame and others.

He took us kids to minor league baseball games, but when I was 7 or 8 he was stationed at Scott AFB near St. Louis and took us to see the Cardinals. After the game kids would wait for players to come out of the clubhouse to go home, and get their autographs. I got the autograph of superstar Stan Musial of the Cardinals, and baseball became my passion in life!

I played in Little League, and school teams--in 8th grade the coach said I was the best hitter. At age 15 we moved and the small high school had only intramural baseball games.

Also around age 8 I began reading the sports pages about football games also, and I made a scrapbook of a lot of games. I played some basketball and soccer at schools, but baseball was always #1 for me. I learned tennis and played a lot for fun. We were a golfing family and as a teenager I also took up golf.

Throughout my life I have watched a lot of baseball, football, basketball, soccer, golf, tennis, and when I lived in Canada, hockey.

Sports have made me a better person by working together as a team for a common goal. And to put in the time to get better. It made me competitive, to play to win.

If I had to go on a jog with a famous athlete, I'd pick the late Hank Aaron, though also many others. I'm a Braves fan, but regardless I think Hank Aaron was a great success story and a human, decent human being who faced great adversity and persevered. He came from a poor area near Mobile, AL, and left with little money to go report to the Braves minor leagues. His hitting skills got him to the major leagues quickly and he was a steady and reliable hitter. When he was close to breaking Babe Ruth's home run record, he put up with thousands of insults and threats from white racists. But he kept on doing his job for the Braves and finally hit homer # 715 in Atlanta to set a new record. He remained humble and an exemplary human being. And when he hit a home run, he didn't act crazy and show off like players today, no, he acted like he'd done that before, no big deal, and circled the bases with quiet dignity!

As a coach or tutor, I would motivate athletes to strive to do your best, use your God-given talents to the best of your ability, and keep learning, keep practicing to get better! And be a team player, because there is no "I" in "team."
