About Maeve
I have 11 years of experience teaching guitar and hold a Doctorate in Guitar Performance and Music Education. My expertise spans classical, jazz, contemporary, and improvisational guitar, with extensive experience mentoring students at all levels. My teaching philosophy emphasises individualised instruction, patience, encouragement, and creative exploration.
I combine technical exercises, repertoire development, performance coaching, and improvisational skill building to nurture well-rounded musicians. I aim to create an environment where students feel supported and inspired to develop their own artistic voice.
Beyond teaching, I perform professionally, collaborate in ensembles, and engage in continuous research and exploration in music pedagogy. I am passionate about helping students achieve technical mastery, artistic expression, and self-confidence. Witnessing learners grow into capable, expressive, and inspired guitarists remains the most fulfilling aspect of my work.

Guitar lessons with me are structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of technique, musicality, and expressive artistry. Each student begins with an evaluation of finger strength, chord accuracy, picking and strumming technique, sight-reading ability, improvisation skill, and musical goals. This assessment allows me to tailor a lesson plan that meets individual needs while fostering artistic development and creative exploration.
Lessons include scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, fingerstyle and pick techniques, sight-reading, rhythm training, improvisation, and repertoire study across multiple genres including classical, jazz, blues, and contemporary music. I incorporate performance simulations, mental practice exercises, and creative projects to reinforce learning, develop confidence, and nurture personal musical identity. Each session balances technical skill development with opportunities for expressive exploration, ensuring a holistic approach to learning guitar.
Advanced learners focus on complex repertoire, solo and ensemble performance, improvisation, composition, recording techniques, and stage presence. Constructive feedback is continuous, covering tone, phrasing, expression, and technical accuracy. My goal is to help students become technically proficient, expressive, and confident musicians, while cultivating a lifelong appreciation for music and the guitar as an instrument for creative self-expression.
