About Darryl

As a lifelong musician, I have performed and recorded on various projects. Usually I play guitar, but I have experience with all kinds of instruments from wind and percussion to pots, pans, and squeaking toys. I have taught guitar and composition to children and young adults. I take a broad-minded approach geared toward inspiration, and hope that my students find music to be a cherished personal practice.

Inspiration is also key to my work, and I use unique methods of teaching that focus on fostering individuals' creative confidence, with the belief that anyone can make music... according to their own tastes.

I look forward to teaching and learning with you!

After more than forty years of playing guitar, I still can't get enough of the stuff. My love of the instrument, and of music itself, is the starting point for welcoming students to music as a practice. It's about devotion more than discipline, as you have to put in the work, because the "play" in playing music takes practice to become proficient. The fact that I've been in several bands and was even had a couple articles written about me doesn't make me a better guitar teacher, but it can be fun to talk about!

About the lesson

Hi! My name is Darryl and I LOVE the guitar, all of them... just ask my wife. I love to play the guitar; I received my first one when I was 4 or 5 years old. I'd love to help you to experience the joy picking up a guitar and losing yourself in the music.

I'm excited to teach you how to play, help you improve your skills, or just how to use your equipment. I teach acoustic and electric guitar, and when you take lessons with me, I provide a relaxed, "no pressure" atmosphere where you can be yourself, learn at your own pace, and overcome any obstacles holding you back. We'll work together to create lessons tailored to your unique needs, but you're gonna have to put in the time and the practice.

I can teach you chords, strumming and fingerpicking for rock, pop, blues, jazz, R&B, soul, classical, folk, world, and much more! What songs do you want to learn? We'll break them down into parts, or a method that makes sense, for you to be jamming in no time.
