About Tsania

I am Tsania, an Indonesian living in London and a postgraduate in education at UCL. What I know about my own people is that we are warm and quietly proud of our language, so the moment you speak even a little of it, something opens up. People soften, they slow down for you, and you stop being a visitor.

That is what my lessons are built around. I am not here to overwhelm you with grammar in the first month. We start with simple things you can use the same day, a greeting, an order, a question to a neighbour, and we build from there. Indonesian helps us here, because there are no tenses and no verb conjugation, so you will be making real sentences sooner than you expect.

I am punctual, prepared and patient. Nobody sounds good in a new language at the start, and I will never make you feel silly for trying, which is usually the thing that stops people from speaking at all.

About the lesson

I teach Bahasa Indonesia through speaking from the very first lesson. We start with phrases you will actually use, and I explain the grammar behind them in English whenever that makes things clearer. Indonesian has no verb conjugation and no tenses, so most learners can build simple sentences within the first few sessions, and I use that early confidence to get you talking before you feel ready.

I build each course around your reason for learning. Someone moving to Jakarta for work needs different vocabulary from someone who wants to talk with their partner's family, and the lessons are planned accordingly. I also teach the difference between formal and everyday Indonesian, which is the part most textbooks leave out and the part that makes you sound natural. Cultural context comes with it, because knowing when to use someone's title or which greeting fits the situation matters as much as the words.

Lessons usually run for 60 minutes, and 90 minutes works well for learners who want extended conversation practice. After each session I send a short summary and a few exercises so you can review between lessons.

My lessons are for complete beginners through to intermediate learners who can already hold a basic conversation and want to speak more fluently. I teach adults, university students and teenagers, and I welcome children learning Bahasa because of family connections. No prior knowledge is needed.
