About Anindia

Hi, I am Anindia, a guzheng teacher and musician originally from Indonesia, now based in London!

I began learning guzheng in 2008 at Miladomus Music School and joined the school’s teaching staff in 2015, working with students aged 5 to 50s across private lessons, group classes, and school extracurricular programmes in partnerships with Tzu Chi Charity Foundation and BPK Penabur 5 Junior High School.

Beyond teaching, I have performed solo and in ensembles with my students at public events and community services. In 2017, I served as a pit musician for Teater Koma, one of Indonesia's most celebrated theatre companies, supporting their 150th production 'Sie Jin Kwie Battles the Western Demon'. In 2023, I moved to London to study design for performance and interaction. In 2024, I produced 'Sasawa', exploring guzheng and Javanese shadow play as collective voices of the silenced memories of Chinese Indonesian minorities. The production has been shown at London Festival of Architecture: Reimagine.

I enjoy teaching as it involves getting to know others, in which I usually adapt and tailor my teaching style to. For me, teaching is a process of learning together; and through music, people build connections to understand each other. Combined together each session is meant for students to have fun!

• Lessons are designed to be enjoyable for students of all ages. Children under 5 may be accepted, depending on their comprehension to participate in the lessons.

• Each session covers practical skills: posture, fingering exercise, technique, body movement, and repertoire and its story - alongside the history and theory of the guzheng. Through this, students will develop a well-rounded understanding of the instrument and the cultural world it comes from, which will help the students' interpretation and presentation while playing and performing.

• As every student is different and comes with their own motivation, lessons are shaped accordingly. If you are learning for examinations and competitions, we work with focused, structured material to build the skills needed. If you are learning for the joy of it, sessions are more relaxed and exploratory, where basic skills will still be taught to build a strong foundation.

• Sessions are 60 minutes each, with at least one session per week recommended for steady progress.

• I offer one-to-one lessons both online and in person. Group sessions are also available for those who prefer learning together.

• I have an Enhanced DBS Certificate that allows me to teach and support children and vulnerable adults.
