About Burton

Graduating from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with an MMus in Piano shaped my technique deeply. I spent formative years training under a Moscow Conservatory mentor who demanded absolute precision in every movement. This lineage defines how I teach posture and hand position today.

I use music theory and rhythm as the building blocks of strong musicianship. I guide them through classical repertoire and jazz improvisation with a focus on rigorous memorization techniques. Students often request help with accompaniment skills as they prepare for serious evaluations. I remain a performing pianist first and I look forward to supporting your musical development.

About the lesson

Admittingly, the piano bench is a place for hard work rather than casual relaxation. I start by performing a diagnostic playing assessment to establish a clear learning plan.

We regard the instrument as an active partner in the learning process. Technique exercises like Czerny occupy a specific portion of our time.

We then transition into the pieces you actually want to play. Music theory is integrated into our discussion of rhythm and timing to ensure accuracy.

Memorisation techniques are discussed during every session. I enjoy the moment when a challenging passage finally resonates with clarity. Practicing with discipline is the most rewarding way to experience the instrument.
