About Jessica

Music is my passion. I am sure you have heard that a million times, but really, it is! No matter how I am feeling, music can always relate, always change my mood in one way or another. How many other things in this world can do that to people?!

I have grown up around the world, music was always there. My mom was always involved in whatever choir was at the church we attended, she played piano, the organ and sang. This had a massive effect on me and I knew from a young age, music is what I want to do with my life. I was singing from the age of 3 and learning piano from age 5. For me, it just clicked. Dont get me wrong, there were things that were tricky and took me a while to get, but generally, it just made sense. Nothing else has ever had that effect on me. By the age of 15 I wanted to take it more seriously. I took lessons and started piano exams at grade 3, passed no problem, and worked up from there to grade 8. With my singing, my teacher started my grades at grade 5, got distinction, so we moved on up to passing my grade 8 in my early 20s. From there, I attended Aberdeen College where i earned my HND in music. I then got married, and started our family. But, music was still what I wanted to do. So, with my toddler in tow, I started courses with Open University full time and completed my bachelors honours degree just a couple of weeks before I had my second baby.
I know what determination is and I know how to help my students progress. I have been teaching now for 10 years and i can honestly say that I still love it. It is fulfilling and rewarding in so many ways. I want to always help to nourish that passion for music in others and help them reach their goals.

About the lesson

I believe music should be enjoyable! Yes, we can do exam preparations but that does not mean that it shouldn't be fun at the same time. From the very first lesson, we will start to learn how to read music and get comfortable with the keyboard. whether you're a beginner or already have some experience, the first few lessons will be about getting to know how your brain works and absorbs the information the best. That way, we can be sure to tailor the lessons more to your style of learning. Along the way, we will get you confident with your theory and feeling capable to use all of the keyboard. Our lessons will typically be held weekly at 30 minutes a lesson. But, this of course can be worked out with your schedule.
