About Amelia

Hi everyone, I'm Amelia! I'm a PhD-qualified academic, thesis examiner, and journal peer reviewer with nearly a decade of experience in health and medical research. I currently work as a Research Fellow, where I write grants and academic papers, support research students, and lead clinical research projects and trials. Over the years, I’ve seen how little practical support students receive when it comes to actually writing their thesis or preparing a manuscript. The structure isn’t always clear, literature reviews quickly become overwhelming, and integrating feedback from multiple supervisors can feel confusing, even discouraging. That’s where I come in. I work with Honours, Master's, and PhD students to help make the writing process less stressful and a lot more strategic. Whether you're starting from scratch, revising for submission, or preparing a journal manuscript, I bring a fresh set of eyes to your work and help you get clear, confident, and organised. I also assist with responding to examiner or peer reviewer comments, offering practical guidance on how to revise effectively and craft clear, professional response letters. Just to be clear, I’m not here to rewrite your work or override your supervisors. I’m here to provide the kind of structured, honest, and helpful support that will make your next draft cleaner, stronger, and more submission-ready. Having completed my own PhD part-time while working full-time in clinical trials, I know how challenging it can be to juggle everything. I bring both rigour and empathy to my sessions, and I'm here to help you feel less stuck and more in control of your research writing. Disclaimer: While I offer expert guidance and detailed support based on academic best practice, I do not guarantee specific grades, examiner outcomes, or publication acceptance. Final decisions always rest with supervisors, institutions, or journals. My role is to enhance clarity, structure, and academic rigour, not to act as a substitute for formal supervision or authorship responsibility.

My lessons are designed to help you take control of your thesis or manuscript with less overwhelm and more clarity. Whether you're at the beginning, mid-point, or final stages of your research, I offer structured, supportive, and tailored help to get you moving forward with confidence.

As a PhD-qualified academic and experienced thesis examiner, I know what assessors, supervisors, and journal editors are looking for, and how to help you meet those expectations without losing your own voice. I work across all stages of the research process, including:

• Developing your structure and framing early ideas
• Polishing chapters or manuscripts for submission
• Providing detailed feedback on full theses
• Assisting with response-to-reviewer or examiner feedback
• Clarifying messy literature reviews or difficult discussions

Sessions are fully tailored to your needs. We can work live via Zoom (typically 60 minutes), or asynchronously, you can send me a chapter or manuscript and I’ll return it with tracked changes, margin comments, and a summary of next steps.

My approach is thoughtful and honest, I’ll always meet you where you’re at, help you see the bigger picture, and give you concrete strategies to improve your writing. I won’t just fix your grammar, I’ll help you write like a researcher.

If you’re ready to stop feeling stuck and start making real progress, I’d love to work with you.

Why work with me?
While I don’t hold a formal copyediting qualification, I work professionally as a thesis examiner, research fellow, and peer reviewer. My editing is informed by real-world academic expectations and discipline-specific experience, not just grammar rules. I help you write like a researcher, not just a student.

Live Sessions – $80/hour
• 1:1 live online support via Zoom
• Sessions tailored to your specific goals
• Ideal for brainstorming, troubleshooting structure, refining academic writing, or preparing for submission
• Includes light follow-up notes or resources if needed

Detailed Written Feedback – from $100/hour
• In-depth, line-by-line comments and tracked changes on submitted documents
• Feedback covers structure, clarity, flow, argument development, academic tone, and alignment with thesis standards
• Ideal for literature reviews, methodology chapters, discussions, or manuscripts
• Minimum charge: 1 hour (based on word count and depth of feedback)

Estimated timeframes (based on my comprehensive approach):
• Medium-depth review: ~1 hour per 800–1,000 words
• Intensive review (heavily revised or early drafts): ~1 hour per 500–700 words

All written feedback includes a brief summary of strengths, key suggestions, and next steps.

Full Thesis or Manuscript Review – (Quote on Request)
• Comprehensive review of a full Honours, Master’s, or PhD thesis (traditional or thesis-by-publication)
• Includes tracked changes, in-text comments, and a summary report
• Turnaround time depends on availability, express review available at additional cost
• Ideal for a final polish or feedback before supervisor or examiner review

Indicative starting prices:
• Honours thesis: from $250 for proofreading, $350 for copyediting, $500 for structural editing
• Master’s thesis: from $400 for proofreading, $600 for copyediting, $900 for structural editing
• PhD thesis: from $750 for proofreading, $1,050 for copyediting, $1,500 for structural editing
Note: Longer theses or multiple manuscript reviews can be quoted separately.

Editing Types Explained:
• Proofreading corrects surface-level issues such as typos, punctuation, grammar, and formatting.
• Copyediting improves sentence-level clarity, consistency, tone, and academic style.
• Structural editing focuses on the big picture, ensuring your thesis has logical flow, strong argumentation, and a cohesive narrative from start to finish.

Final quotes are based on word count, draft quality, and required turnaround time. Not sure what level of support you need? I'm happy to offer a free 20-minute intro chat to discuss your project and suggest the best fit.

I also assist students in preparing clear, strategic responses to thesis examiner reports or journal peer reviewer comments, helping you revise with confidence and clarity.

Responding to Reviewer or Examiner Feedback – from $100/hour
• Support with crafting clear, professional responses to thesis examiners or journal reviewers
• Assistance with interpreting feedback, restructuring sections, and strengthening argumentation
• Includes tracked edits, suggested wording for response letters, and strategy for addressing critiques
• Ideal for thesis resubmissions, revise-and-resubmit manuscripts, or journal peer review responses
