My teaching method is going over the things that the child is currently struggling first, to make sure they understand. I would do this by going over the method and then setting work, so that I can see how much understanding they have after I have reviewed the methods with them. If your child is not struggling and is looking to be ahead, I would do the same thing, but with new subjects.
