About Joyce

I've taken piano lessons for over ten years with teachers at the Cary School of Music as well as with Pin Pin Jong, competing in various competitions such as Young Artists Auditions and the North Carolina Music Teachers' Association performance festival. I've earned superior ratings (93+) in every competition I've participated in and won 2nd place in the Concerto III level in Young Artists Auditions.

Apart from these competitions, I have served as part of my church's youth worship team and have accompanied the choir at my church for the past 3 years. I'd love to help students learn this aspect of piano if they have an interest in it as well!

About the lesson

Hey, I'm Joyce! I'm a junior in high school and have been taking piano lessons since I was 5 years old, so I know and have personally experienced the struggle many kids have with piano. I used to absolutely hate practicing and playing, but over time, I've developed a passion for expression through music and have a desire to share my love for the piano with others!

I can teach elementary and middle school students, whether you're a beginner or moving towards the early advanced stage. I understand that some students might simply want to be able to play their favorite songs or gain a basic knowledge of the piano, while others would like to further their knowledge in playing more complicated pieces. Whatever it is you'd like to do, I'll do my best to help you achieve those goals.

A typical lesson with me would begin with warm-ups, which improve finger strength and flexibility and are a must for preparing the hands to play. I would then go into music theory, which allows for understanding of the pieces played and a better analysis of the reason notes are placed within the piece. The final and central portion of the lesson would be dedicated to learning pieces, with playing and feedback especially highlighted. I strongly believe that consistent practice is the key to becoming proficient at the piano and encourage daily practice.
