About Vince
I worked across Western Canada in hospitality before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in History. My primary areas of study included Aztec and Roman civilization, Cold War nuclear diplomacy, international exchange, and the History of Buddhism. I presented on Cold War Jazz Ambassadors and was accepted to present on the impact that drugs and alcohol had on both comedy and politics during the Nixon Administration. I graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 2024, achieving honors and being nominated for the Rose Litman Medal in Humanities graduate award. I won several academic scholarships for my work, being recognized due to the creative topics I researched extensively. From ancient Japanese beekeepers and Aztec shamanism to radio, records, and jazz in the Cold War, there are few topics I feel are off limits when approached with creativity. I also attended and graduated the Hotel and Restaurant Administration program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in 2013, giving me a strong foundation in customer service. As a tutor my students are my clients, and just like a good bartender, their happiness from my performance is paramount to success and a positive learning experience. As a former bartender and now aspiring teacher enrolled in my Masters of Education and TESOL certification, I know how important preparation is. My lessons will reflect your interests and I put in the extra effort before every lesson to tailor lesson plans that reflect each student's individual goals.

I feel an effective strategy guides students to learning that is reflective of their own interests and lived experiences in today's world. I encourage students to set goals that are personally important to them that builds on previous understanding and interest. I will never punish a student for saying "I don't know" as it is a powerful phrase that can guide self learning based on curiosity and interest. That is, the more we know, the more we realize we don't know. My lessons are individually tailored to students' needs as all students bring their own experience to their work. There is not one individual way to be a successful teacher, or to find success as a student. My lesson plans begin by listening to what a student hopes to achieve and building with them a foundation for success based on each student's individual learning style. I can guide students to effectively research, read, and write from early elementary school up to and including the university level. I encourage curiosity and creativity in writing while promoting effective development of skills to ensure students won't feel "locked in" with a topic they may have no interest in.
