About Sam

I am a student in first year at UO Nottingham originally from York, with GCSE and A level A/A* grades in history. I have tutored students before in history at key stage 3 level when I was 16 and have volunteered time for other schemes where I officiated sports events and quizzes so I have worked with younger people in a role of authority before, so this step up to private tuition would be much easier for me to take.

About the lesson

Rather than just teach how to write an essay or give facts, my teaching method is very ideologically based, essentially I try to explain important complicated ideas that are present in events. Simply because for me the best teachers I’ve had have been the ones who explain difficult themes and contexts as in history exploring these themes is how you reach the top grades, and if you’re interested in a career in history like myself, then pushing to the highest grade you possibly can is important. I also prefer this method as it is not so uptight and fixed, it can lead into very wide ranging discussions which is not only an important way of learning through discussion and debate, but this also reflects me as a person. As I certainly am not uptight in my life I much prefer to try and stay calm and relaxed to make the most of situations, which meant I always preferred my lessons at school to be the same, as it allows for me to actually explore what I personally find important in the subject, as history is such an opinion based subject, it’s pointless to just hear my opinion, you need to figure out your own and evaluate it against others.
