About Stephanie
Hi, I'm Steph! I'm a qualified History teacher with over 12 years' experience teaching at secondary level, from Key Stage 3 through to A Level. I'm also an experienced examiner, so I know what examiners are looking for and, importantly, how to help students show what they know on the page.
I absolutely love History, but I know that doesn't mean every student automatically finds it easy! Whether you're struggling to make sense of the content, getting stuck on essay structure, trying to improve your exam technique, or aiming for those top grades, I'll meet you where you are and build from there.
I specialise in GCSE and A Level History, with particular experience of Edexcel at GCSE and AQA, Edexcel and OCR at A Level. I also support students with source and interpretation skills, extended writing and NEA/coursework.
My approach is friendly, encouraging and structured. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and saying, "I genuinely have no idea what that means." That's usually where the best learning starts!
Most importantly, I want History to make sense. There will be plenty of exam technique, but also stories, debate and, inevitably, some historical gossip along the way.
When I'm not teaching History, you'll usually find me walking my flat-coated retriever Gordon (although it's debatable who walks whom), reading, training at the gym or dragging my friends around yet another historical site.

No two students learn in exactly the same way, so no two lessons with me are exactly the same.
We'll start by identifying what you need most, whether that's filling gaps in your knowledge, untangling a difficult topic, improving an essay, tackling sources and interpretations, or sharpening your exam technique.
Lessons are interactive and discussion-based rather than an hour of me talking at you! I use questioning, retrieval, debate, modelling and exam practice to help knowledge stick and build confidence. For students who need more structure, I break tasks into manageable steps and use clear scaffolding to make difficult material feel less overwhelming.
For GCSE and A Level students, we'll also spend plenty of time learning how to turn good History knowledge into good exam answers. We'll look at what examiners actually reward, plan responses together, analyse examples and gradually build towards independent answers.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes, with 90-minute sessions available where appropriate.
