About Abby
Hi, I’m a UCT Psychology graduate and currently completing my PGCE. I’ve always enjoyed working with children and helping them feel more confident in their learning. Through my studies, as well as my experience working with families and supporting learners with their schoolwork, I’ve developed a good understanding of how children learn and what helps them feel comfortable asking questions and engaging with their work.
I’m patient, approachable, and try to create a relaxed environment where learners don’t feel afraid to make mistakes or ask for help. I believe that building confidence is just as important as improving marks, especially for younger learners who are still developing their foundational skills.
My aim is simply to support students in a way that helps them feel more capable and comfortable with their schoolwork.

My approach to tutoring is patient, supportive, and tailored to each learner. I try to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring ideas, without feeling pressured. I enjoy helping learners see the relevance of history and making the subject engaging, rather than just memorising dates and facts.
I teach in English and focus on helping learners develop understanding, critical thinking, and confidence. For primary school learners, this includes making historical events and concepts accessible and connecting them to things they already know. For high school learners, lessons may involve deeper discussions, analysing sources, preparing for exams, and practising essay writing.
A typical lesson usually includes reviewing schoolwork or upcoming assignments, explaining concepts in a clear and relatable way, practising questions or exercises together, and making sure the learner feels confident before finishing.
My lessons are aimed at primary learners who need extra support, homework help, or want to improve their understanding of history. I adapt my approach to the learner’s level and learning style to make sure every lesson is effective and enjoyable.
