About Anika

Hi there! My name is Anika, and I am offering piano and music theory tutoring! I hold a Royal Conservatory of Music - RCM Grade (Level) 8 Piano with First Class Honours (obtained March 2012). Before and after that point in time, I have spent years learning, practicing, and preparing for RCM examinations. I currently play at a Grade/Level 10, and have completed my practical examination for Level 9 (still completing my Harmony and Music History!). I have approximately 15 years experience performing across multiple settings from a small auditorium to a large professional stage. I have performed at music festivals competitively for piano, electric guitar, electric bass, and voice; musical/choir piano accompaniment; and finally created materials and taught at summer music camps. My goal is for you to be fulfilled in your musical journey!

About the lesson

- Lessons to those who have never played the piano before but have always wanted to learn. It's never too late to start learning an instrument, and piano is one of the best instruments to learn at any age! Don't be discouraged - I'm happy to discuss your musical goals!
- "Refresher" lessons for those who have past experience in piano, but would like to start playing the instrument again (I myself have taken breaks for years in between from playing my instruments due to other commitments like university, and that's okay!!!). There's always an opportunity for a tune-up in your skills!
- Lessons for all ages & levels from beginner to advanced! I also have my advanced theory, and am happy to help you with learning musical theory.
- Lessons on how to read music! Music is simply another language, and once you learn it, there are so many musical opportunities for you!
- Preparing for a musical performance! From creating a steady practice schedule that allows for effective practice time AND breaks, to performance etiquette or dealing with performance anxiety (I spent years performing in from of small and large audiences all while coping with performance anxiety - the piece of mind is that it is possible to still perform and accomplish your goals despite what your mind or body is telling you!)
- Learning a song that you have always wanted to play on the piano! I specialize in classical and jazz genres in piano, however, I have experience in playing all genres like rock, contemporary, pop, and more!
- Preparing for RCM examinations (only upon request, as I have to obtain the materials to prepare you for your upcoming exam!). If you are looking to prepare for an RCM examination, please keep in mind that this is process takes a lot of time, dedication, and discipline. It truly depends on the student, but for myself, it took me 2 years to prepare for my Grade 8 RCM practical examination.
