About Lisa
I have worked for several years at the University of Utah Writing Center (WC) and have been an editor at several different Student Media Publications at the U. To work at the WC, I've received training and done tutoring specific courses that have taught me how to approach just about any kind of writing at whatever stage it is brought to me. Although there was a focus on in-person tutoring at the center, I also have experience running lessons online and in asynchronous written formats. Technical Editing is also a strong suit of mine and I've taken a variety of courses and held multiple positions where editing and doing multiple rounds of edits with writers were the bread and butter of my work.

I am more than happy and capable to help with anything writing related from ACT prep to College/Grad School application to essays to creative writing at any point at the writing process, especially brainstorming, organizing, and proofreading. I'm comfortable working within a middle school to college level.
Typically, I like to start a lesson by ask what the expectations for a piece are before reading it in its entirety. After a close read, I move on to giving an overview of what has been done well and what can be improved, making sure that larger issues are addressed and discussed before moving onto smaller points of conversation. I feel that tutoring should be a back and forth, I want to hear what you think and how you feel about your work. The focus is on make sure what you want to say is being expressed accurately and cohesively to whoever the intended audience is.
