About Sarah

Hi there!

Upon scoring multiple 1st cohort placings in Mathematics 1 & 2 in my HSC year, I have been since passionate about helping my students to achieve their academic goals to set them up for both personal and professional growth. I specialize in being a Mathematics tutor, where I delivered tailored lessons using worked examples and continuous feedback, helping students achieve Band 6 results and go above and beyond their potential. Over three years of tutoring experience and having taught 30+ students across both one-on-one private tutoring and group-class settings at tutoring centers, I have worked with students of different ages, academic abilities and learning styles. This ranges from students struggling to understand the concepts and looking to strengthen their abilities to apply fundamentals into questions, to high-achieving students aiming to maximize their results in senior years and examinations. I have supported students not only with subject content, but also with exam preparation, study techniques, time management and balancing academic commitments with extracurricular activities.

Throughout my teaching journey, I have developed a strong understanding of the importance of personalized teaching plans. This is achieved through adapting each lesson according to the student's current understanding, areas of difficulty and academic goals. I use clear explanations, worked examples, guided problem-solving, targeted practice and regular feedback to ensure students understand not only how to solve a question, but also mechanics behind why the approach works.

Working at tutoring centers has also exposed me to a large and diverse collection of teaching materials and resources. In addition to the resources I have personally developed and used over the years, I have access to an extensive range of resources accumulated through my experience in tutoring centers and from other experienced educators and tutors. These include but not limited to practice questions, topic worksheets, revision materials, examination-style questions, past papers, worked solutions and supplementary exercises. This broad resource base allows me to select materials that are appropriate for each student's ability and provide additional practice when a student needs more reinforcement or is ready for more challenging questions.

About the lesson

From my lessons, you can expect the following from me as a tutor:

- PERSONALISED lesson planning: based on each student’s current ability, areas of weakness and academic goals. I work alongside the student’s school syllabus and assessment schedule to ensure lessons remain relevant and students are consistently prepared for upcoming topics and assessments.

- CLEAR, STEP-BY-STEP TEACHING of challenging concepts, followed by guided practice and independent questions. Students are exposed to a wide range of questions, from foundational exercises to more challenging application and examination-style problems, so they can build confidence before tackling unfamiliar questions.

- A WIDE RANGE OF RESOURCES to support learning both inside and outside of lessons. Students have access to my own tailored lesson materials, as well as an extensive collection of worksheets, practice questions, past examinations, worked solutions, textbooks and supplementary resources gathered through my experience tutoring at coaching centers and working alongside other experienced tutors.

- TARGETED EXAM AND ASSESSMENT PREPARATION, including breaking down difficult questions, identifying common mistakes and developing strategies for approaching different question types. Where appropriate, I can also work through assessment requirements and provide constructive feedback to help students understand exactly where they can improve.

- STUDY SKILLS AND TIME MANAGEMENT to help students become more organized and independent learners. This includes developing effective revision routines, prioritizing areas of weakness, managing workload around assessments and learning how to approach exams strategically under time pressure.

- ONGOING FEEDBACK AND PROGRESS TRACKING throughout the tutoring process. I aim to identify gaps early, monitor improvement over time and adjust lesson content accordingly, ensuring that students are continuously challenged while still receiving support where they need it most.

- CONFIDENCE, MOTIVATION AND A POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT: Beyond improving marks, I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and tackling difficult problems. My goal is to help students develop genuine confidence in their abilities, greater independence and a stronger appreciation for the subject.
