About Federico

I'm Federico, a Biochemistry student at Imperial College London, originally from Milan. Being a science student shapes how I work more than anything else: I like precision, I don't hand back vague comments, and if a paragraph isn't working I'll tell you exactly why and what to do about it.

This isn't my first time teaching. I've tutored younger students in maths, science and English, and that taught me something I've carried into this work: explaining something well is a completely different skill from knowing it. Clear feedback beats gentle feedback almost every time, and patience does the rest.

Growing up in Italy and learning English young also made me care about how a sentence actually lands rather than how impressive it looks. That turns out to be the single most useful instinct for a personal statement, where the temptation is always to sound clever instead of sounding like yourself.

What you can expect from me: I reply promptly, I turn feedback around when I say I will, and I read every draft properly rather than skimming it. I'm honest with students, because polite encouragement about a weak draft helps nobody in October. And the work stays yours. I coach, edit and challenge, but the words on the page are always the applicant's own.

Everything you share with me is confidential, including drafts, grades and anything personal behind your application. I take that seriously.

I'm Federico, and I finished this process less than a year ago, so I remember it properly: the character counter, the sentences about "my passion for science" that got deleted because they sounded like everyone else's.

What I learned is that the strongest statements don't come from the most impressive experiences. They come from students who understood what their experiences meant. I applied to five UCAS universities and received four offers, was interviewed for Biochemistry at Oxford, and I'm now starting Biochemistry at Imperial. I also applied to US universities, which meant writing about myself in a completely different register and taught me more about the UCAS statement than anything else.

I don't start students with a blank page. The first session is a conversation: why this subject, what you read that nobody set for you, what changed your mind about something. Somewhere in there you usually say the sentence the whole statement should be built around, and my job is to catch it.

Then we work draft by draft. You write, I give line by line feedback on structure, evidence and tone, and we tighten it together. I won't write it for you: UCAS runs similarity checks, admissions tutors spot ghostwritten statements immediately, and the version in your own voice is always stronger anyway.

Sessions are 60 minutes, or 90 for a first meeting or intensive work near a deadline. I also review finished drafts as standalone written feedback.

I work with sixth formers and gap year applicants across all subjects, including Oxbridge and medicine candidates facing the October deadline, plus CVs for internships, part-time jobs and applications.
