About Filippa
Hi, my name is Filippa. I've last year I finished my Engineering degree at Imperial, so I know all about Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. My main aim as your tutor would be firstly to get you feeling more confident in your own ability, and secondly get you really enjoying the subject. Especially with the sciences, there is so much more to a subject than just past papers, and getting through exams, which is what I thought it was when I was at school. I'm really keen on getting young people into STEM, as it's such an exciting field to get into!
As well as being a tutor, I'm also a netball captain and a windsurfing instructor. Therefore I have a huge amount of experience of teaching both academically and learning a brand new skill out on the water. Most valuably it's allowed me to meet loads of people, each with different learning styles, and has taught me how to adapt my teaching so that my student can get the most out of the lesson.
I definitely struggled with grasping a lot of concepts, so I can definitely empathise if you're struggling. I always learnt best when my teachers took things back to basics, and went at whatever pace I felt most comfortable with, something I've definitely taken on in my own teaching style. So if, like me, you want to just get your head round those tricky concepts, expand your knowledge and take things at a chill pace, I'm certainly the right tutor for you!

I run my lessons on a 'learn-through-doing' type basis. I work through problems with my students, as you get lectured enough as it is by your teachers. This helps me see what areas my students find tricky, and together we can figure out what is the best method to solve each problem is!
