About Alex

I love teaching because I find it a very interesting collaboration. When teaching I have to devise a course of study which fits the student's level and interest, which is a creative act in itself, and try to teach in a way that makes sense for that particular mind. That process is always different and always forces me to think about the things I already know in a new way, which keeps things fresh for me and helps me grow as a player. Very often I demonstrate things in the lesson, trying to play in a way that illustrates the point, and find myself thinking 'I should play more like that on gigs too!'. I get something interesting back from everyone I teach which ends up making me a better player too. Whatever your level and interest, do get in touch and let's work on some music!

About the lesson

I'm a jazz pianist, composer and arranger and have been teaching for 15 years. I love to teach students of varied interest and level. Everyone is different and brings different things to the table, and I enjoy figuring out a direction of study that's bespoke to the student. Whether you'd like to learn more about improvising, theory, technique, or other styles like soul, rock, pop, I'd love to work with you and help you take your skills and interest further.
