About Görkem
I am a guitarist, composer and music educator with more than 15 years of full-time teaching experience. I have taught guitar, piano, solfège and ensemble classes, helping hundreds of students develop their technique, confidence and musical identity. I also provide tuition during school hours at primary and secondary schools across Kingston and Richmond.
My musical education began at Avni Akyol Fine Arts High School, followed by jazz guitar studies at Yıldız Technical University. In 2010, my wife and I founded Beyaz Tuslar Music School in Istanbul, where I combined teaching with school management, arranging and recording. The school later became an official ABRSM examination centre.
In 2023, I began a master’s degree in Music and Performance at Kingston University London, focusing on live performance, composition and the development of my original repertoire. After graduating, I established the Gorkem Ozalp Trio as a professional project. My music combines modern jazz improvisation with asymmetrical rhythms and modal colours influenced by Anatolian and European musical traditions. I released my debut EP, Addresses, in 2025, followed by Waltz in D Minor in 2026.
As an active performer, I bring current professional experience directly into my lessons. Through practical demonstration, I help students understand technique, tone, rhythm, phrasing and musical expression while keeping their education structured, engaging and enjoyable.

Master’s-trained guitarist, 15-year full-time KMS/RMT tutor in local schools, and London trio performer, offering joyful, professional tuition.
My teaching philosophy is simple: students learn best when they first develop a genuine love of music. I make lessons engaging, inspiring, and tailored to each learner, while maintaining the structure and high standards of a professional music education.
Students’ musical interests play an important role in shaping my lesson programmes. I use their preferred songs and styles as a foundation while incorporating essential technical work—including phrasing, chord work, rhythm, technique, and musicianship. This ensures lessons remain both enjoyable and genuinely productive. When students enjoy the music they are practising, their motivation and progress increase significantly.
Alongside my teaching career, I am an active performing musician and regularly appear with my trio at established London music venues. This live performance experience feeds directly into my teaching. By demonstrating techniques, tone, phrasing, and musical ideas on the instrument, I make complex concepts clear, practical, and accessible.
Rather than just giving students the impression that they can play, I focus on developing genuine instrumental ability, musical understanding, technique, confidence, and independence. I also prepare students for ABRSM, Trinity, and other graded examinations, with a strong record of helping learners achieve excellent results. The hundreds of successful students I have taught over the years demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach.
