About Nyah

Hi, I’m Nyah, a recent University of Melbourne graduate and prospective Masters of teaching student. After recently completing my Bachelor of Arts in French and Linguistics and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in French, I’m working as an Integration Aide, providing 1:1 and small group classroom support to students.
I know that school can feel challenging or overwhelming at times, but in my sessions, every student feels seen and heard and I strive to make the content more accessible.
I have a real passion for teaching and helping students to feel confident in themselves and their ability to achieve their goals.

Here’s a snapshot of what I’ve done:
• Graduated VCE in 2019 with an ATAR of 99.05
• Graduated from Bachelor of Arts in French and Linguistics in 2023 with a WAM of 91.07
• Graduated from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in French 2024 with a WAM of 90.50
• Received VCE Premier’s Award (2018)
• High Distinction achieved in all French and Linguistics subjects
• Awarded Dean’s Honours List – Bachelor of Arts (Melbourne University, 2021, 2022, 2023)
• Awarded Bachelor of Arts Medal (Melbourne University, 2023)
• Awarded Dean's Honours List - Bachelor of Arts (Honours) (Melbourne University, 2025)
• Awarded A. D. Hallam Memorial Prize (Melbourne University, 2022)
• Awarded Takamitsu Muraoka Prize (Melbourne University, 2022)
• Awarded Professor A R Chisholm Memorial Prize (2025)
• Awarded Doctor Joseph Birch Hanson prize (2025)
• Passed DELF B2 (2025)
• Worked with Association of French Teachers in Victoria on the development of pedagogical resources
• Undertaken internships in both high school and bilingual primary school classrooms
• Worked as a French assistant, providing classroom support and conducting 1:1 VCE oral preparation sessions
• Working as an Integration Aide, supporting students 1:1 or in small groups in the classroom
• Experience tutoring, teaching and mentoring primary school, high school and university students

As a Masters of Teaching student, I am committed to using my wealth of knowledge from both my own schooling and my teaching experience to provide students with the support and care they need to excel!

It can be scary to speak French in front of your teacher or peers and confronting to hear or read a block of text where not all the words are familiar. As a tutor, my aim is therefore to provide a safe and comfortable space where students have the chance to practice and learn without fear of judgment. Through tailored listening, speaking, reading, writing and vocabulary practice, I work with students to ensure they feel confident and capable in all areas of the French language. All sessions are student-directed, where students are free to bring questions or provide topics they'd like to cover in advance. I have experience tutoring high school students and mentoring university students, as well as having spent time in both high school and French-English bilingual primary school environments as a teaching assistant. As a result, I have a deep understanding of student needs and the challenges posed by the French learning environment and the ways in which these can be overcome. I am deeply committed to my students and providing them with the best learning experience possible. I also have experience working with the Association of French teachers in Victoria on the development of pedagogical resources, meaning I have an in-depth understanding of the behind-the-scenes of the curriculum and its demands on students. Available for 1 hour tutoring sessions for year 7-12 students online.
