About Katherine

I am very passionate about the Japanese language and the Japanese culture. I initially became interested in Japanese when I discovered the world of anime and manga (which I'm still interested in to this day), so if this is what inspired your interest in the language as well, we have a lot in common! After that, I also grew interested in other aspects of Japanese culture, and I'm ready to share with you everything I know about it. As I've mentioned before, I'm not a native speaker, and I'm still learning Japanese myself (currently preparing for JLPT 3). This means that I know what it's like to be a Japanese learner! From my own language learning experience, it's great to learn about the subtleties of usage from a native speaker at more advanced levels, but for a beginner it's best to learn from a professional non-native teacher who went through and successfully overcame all the difficulties that beginners face, and can provide you with precise explanations in your native language. Japanese wasn't my major at university, but I am a professional teacher of foreign languages with a Master's degree in Linguistics. I taught foreign languages at a university for 2 years, and I have 7 years of experience as a language tutor. I am also a language fan and a polyglot who speaks 3 languages fluently and is learning a few more. My other hobbies include drawing and painting, reading, cooking. I love learning new things and I just love living! My mission as a teacher is not just to share my knowledge, but also to motivate and inspire my students!

About the lesson

Whether you are a fan of anime and manga, or intrigued by the rich Japanese culture, or simply interested in this exotic Eastern language, I'm ready to be your guide on your journey towards understanding the Japanese language. I'm not a native speaker of Japanese, but I know virtually everything there is to know about JLPT 5 as I prepared for it and successfully passed it back in 2016. I am very patient and understanding, and I'm always ready to give you additional explanations and additional exercises when you need them. I will take into account what you'd like to learn, such as only teaching you spoken Japanese if you aren't interested in writing, or explaining to you how the writing system works in detail (it's not as scary as it seems, I promise!) During my lessons you will receive all the materials you need for learning. We will take as much or as little time as you need on each topic until you feel confident and ready to move on. It's also up to you to decide if you want me to give you homework, but if you do, here is a little bonus for you: the marking of homework is included in the price of my lessons!
