About Yumiko

Hi, my name is Yumiko. こんにちは！ゆみこです＾＾ I am a recent MA TESOL student at King’s College London. I am a qualified teacher of English for secondary schools (junior and high schools) in Japan and also have been awarded a CELTA from Cambridge (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificates. I have over 15 years' experience in teaching English as a foreign language at junior high and high schools in Japan. Also, I have taught Japanese & Japanese culture in a local school in the UK and also to private learners. I have always been passionate about language learning, too. It is very interesting to exchange and talk about different languages and cultures with people from various countries. I'd love to help you with anything you need, no matter if it's starting to learn Japanese from scratch, everyday conversation, how to write, correcting your writing or learning casual/polite way of written and spoken Japanese or learning pronunciation and accents! よろしくお願(ねが)いします！ Available languages: Japanese and English

About the lesson

I believe that the keys to successful language learning are enjoyment and also, making mistakes! They are a shortcut to success. Like skiing, snowboarding and all other experiences. We learn a lot from mistakes, and they make us progress faster! My students have always told me that in my classes they feel comfortable asking questions, have fun and are not afraid to make mistakes. I focus on the individual needs and tailor the content of lessons and plan to achieve them. This can range from beginners to advanced, daily conversation practice to specific exams, papers and so forth. Perfect! My first lesson with Yumiko was really enjoyable.

Before the lesson she made enquiries as to my current level of Japanese, which is very basic! Then prepared appropriate material to learn. It was an enjoyable first lesson!

Phil is a very polite, gentle, and pleasant person. It was my pleasure to have a lesson with him. I was also very impressed by his warm thoughts towards his family and friends and his experiences in Japan. He is also very diligent about learning Japanese. I'd be very happy to be of his support in his learning.
