About Jasper

Musicality is a concept that is not about technique, massive knowledge, nor impressive amounts of speed displayed during a solo.

I try and teach the benefits of "musicality" in context of playing the guitar. To simply play one note that just perfect, hold it for a while, add some vibrato ... that is cool.

Surprisingly easy-yet-little-known chord structures are one of my specialties and they can often inspire the student to write an entire composition based around the sound of one of these musical gems.

I have written two guitar manuals (The Imaginative Guitarist: Aeolian Edition and Phrygian Edition) ... although in fact I am re-writing these to include more value-for-focus.

Focus and motivation and enjoyment are three elusive qualities to be experienced whilst learning new things on the guitar, and to make sure the student has the best opportunity to do so ... I find out what they like, what bores them, and what their musical aspirations are.

About the lesson

My approach to a one-hour guitar lesson is both prepared and freeform, depending on the level of the student. I will bring sheets of guitar chord maps - almost certainly. Along with this will most likely be instructional (and beautiful) guitar chord progression charts.

I feel that knowledge of the seven modes is like a personal understanding of the seven possible "moods" of "Music", so to speak. Each mode has a character and feeling, although this is possible to explore and remix, as the guitarist improves.

I have played, performed and composed on guitar for over four decades, beginning age 10, and after high school I went immediately to Southern Cross University where I was taught by the best in the industry.

Intermediate to advanced guitarists are going to love what I have to bring to a guitar learning scenario. Beginning guitarists are also welcome, with the learning material naturally adjusted for their level.

My focus is on performance and composition; teaching guitar is a pleasure; I am only too happy to share valuable musical insights, techniques and information.

Musicality is a concept that involves the transformation of musical information into a musical experience. That is my main aim quite apart from merely presenting data and practice exercises.

Music is a beautiful way to complement the day or evening.
